Choose a grid with intent
Start with the relationship you need to draw, not just the square size. A general square grid is useful for handwriting, measurement, arithmetic, and layout. A coordinate grid adds axes and labels for graphing lessons. Specialty grids preserve a particular geometry so a printed page can support drafting, maps, games, stitch patterns, or technical data without forcing a regular square grid to do the wrong job.
Choose 1/4 inch, 1 inch, 5 mm, or 1 cm when the page needs an even field of cells.
