How to print and use a paper ruler
A paper ruler is useful only when its printed scale is correct. Verify the calibration mark with a trusted ruler before measuring an object.

Choose inches or centimeters and a length your paper supports. Preview the required paper format before downloading the PDF.
Print and verify the calibration
Choose Actual Size or 100%, then measure the scale-check box with a trusted ruler. Reprint if it is the wrong size.
Cut and measure from zero
Cut along the ruler edge if needed. Align the object with the zero tick and read the tick at its far end.

How do I print the ruler at actual size?

Why does the 12 inch ruler use Legal landscape paper?
A full 12 inch ruler does not fit across Letter paper at true size with readable margins, so this preset uses Legal landscape.
