The 7.1 mm spacing leaves more room for ordinary handwriting than narrow ruling while fitting more notes than wide ruling. Choose 6.4 mm for compact notes, or 8.7 mm when larger writing and corrections need extra height.
How much space the layout gives you
Inside the page margins, the rules span 177.8 mm across and 317.5 mm vertically. There are 45 horizontal rules, creating 44 full writing bands. These counts describe the default sheet, before editor changes.
Paper and printer choice
US Legal needs a tray and paper that support 8.5 × 14 inches. A Letter-only tray cannot preserve the full page at actual size. Switch the preset to your loaded sheet before exporting rather than fitting the longer PDF onto shorter paper. For blue or gray guides, print and photocopy one trial sheet first; faint lines may lose contrast in a copy.

- How can I check the printed spacing?
Print at 100% or Actual Size, then measure from one rule or dot to the one ten intervals away. That distance should be 71 mm for this 7.1 mm preset. Measuring ten intervals is easier than judging one small gap; exclude the thickness of the lines.
