The 8.7 mm spacing suits larger handwriting and worked answers with corrections. It leaves fewer writing bands than 7.1 mm ruling on the same sheet; choose the closer spacing when page capacity matters more.

Paper and printer choice
US Legal needs a tray and paper that support 8.5 × 14 inches. A Letter-only tray cannot preserve the full page at actual size. Switch the preset to your loaded sheet before exporting rather than fitting the longer PDF onto shorter paper. For blue or gray guides, print and photocopy one trial sheet first; faint lines may lose contrast in a copy.

Print at 100% or Actual Size, then measure from one rule or dot to the one ten intervals away. That distance should be 87 mm for this 8.7 mm preset. Measuring ten intervals is easier than judging one small gap; exclude the thickness of the lines.
