Choosing and using this paper

Choosing and printing this specification

These 8.47 mm squares leave room for large marks, counters and introductory graphs. They fit fewer cells on a sheet than a 5 mm grid; choose a smaller interval for detailed plots or long calculations.

How much space the layout gives you

The selected US Letter sheet measures 215.9 × 279.4 mm in this orientation. Switching orientation changes the space across and down, while the cell or dot interval stays the same. Match the orientation to the shape of your chart or page layout.

What the bold guides mean

A heavier line marks every 5 cells, so one bold block spans 42.35 mm. Use the blocks to count positions quickly; the smaller cells still have the same scale. Add axis labels if the grid represents quantities.

Paper and printer choice

Use US Letter stock for this preset. If you have A4, change the paper size in the editor before exporting. Resizing in the print dialog also resizes the grid or ruling. Check the margins against your hole punch before making multiple copies. This preset reaches the paper edge. A printer without borderless support may clip the outer marks. To keep the spacing, add margins in the editor or accept the clipped edge instead of shrinking the whole page. For blue or gray guides, print and photocopy one trial sheet first; faint lines may lose contrast in a copy.

Questions about this format

How can I check the printed spacing?

Print at 100% or Actual Size, then measure from one rule or dot to the one ten intervals away. That distance should be 84.7 mm for this 8.47 mm preset. Measuring ten intervals is easier than judging one small gap; exclude the thickness of the lines.
