How to use Name tracing

Print your edited sheet, sit beside your child, and show one example before they try. Use a few rows or one small task at a time; there is no need to finish the whole page in one sitting.

You will need: A pencil and your printed worksheet.

  1. Name tracing use example: Read the name together.

    Read the name together

Point to the name at the top. Say it together and follow its letters from left to right before picking up the pencil.

  2. Name tracing use example: Show one tracing example.

    Show one tracing example

Demonstrate one name slowly. Let your child trace the next one on the dotted or outline letters, with the paper held steady.

  3. Name tracing use example: Practise a few more names.

    Practise a few more names

Continue along the row or start another line. Pause when your child is tired; the remaining rows can be used another day.

Make it work for your child

If the letters feel too small, try Big letters. Keep the same spelling and letter case that your child sees on their name card.

Print the sheet you just edited

Choose Letter or A4 to match your printer paper. Download the PDF and print at 100% or actual size. Check the preview before printing. For another child, change the name and add that edited sheet to your print pack separately.

Before you print

Which letter case and writing font should I use?

Enter the name as your child normally sees it, including its capital and lowercase letters. Choose a writing font that matches their familiar model. The tracing style changes dotted or outline letters, while the paper theme changes decoration.

Does my child need to finish all the tracing rows?

No. Start with one name or a few rows and keep the rest for another session. If the letters need more room, open Big letters; it has larger guided rows and a blank row for a first independent try.

Can I download this worksheet for free?

Yes. Customize the name, paper theme and size, then download a one-page PDF, PNG or SVG. No account is needed. The PDF contains the current preview; the worked example below is a separate illustration.

How do I collect sheets for later?

Click Add to print pack after editing a sheet. Open the print pack in the header to review your saved sheets, change their order or copies, and download them together. Adding a page saves its current version; later edits do not change it.

Try another way to learn the name

Each activity has its own editable sheet and instructions. Pick a next step that fits what your child wants to try.
